Learning to write in cursive

I spill and spill food.
It is one useful skill that I picked up after 30.
Practice is essential, but I have seen some geniuses.

Velazquez who embedded multiple perspectives in his royal family paintings,
Picasso who combined the front and side views in the portraits of his loved ones,
and Pollock who spattered paints and walked on his room sized papers...

These were not artists but revolutionaries
who tried to cram the three dimensional world into two dimensions.

The art that I am about to describe is
the art of living our time and space.
simple as spilling food and picking it up.
As there is an art of neatly preparing food,
there is also an art of spilling food.

They cry, "Look! Feel!" forcing you to find life within still paintings,
but I tell you to find yourself in

the calligraphy of running black tea,
the braised meat that slides away from your fork,
and in the creamy soup that jumps out of the hot pan.

As art originally meant "skill,"
it can't be mastered within a day or two.
As I originally was not skilled in all,
it isn't time to cry over a loss or two.

That is why I plan to sweep and mop the floor,
which will only be bruised and stained even more.

I call this "practice of getting clumsy" an art
which I will pursue with all my heart.
